X1Plus Firmware 3.1: Polar Cloud Support, Extender Restocked & More

We’re excited to announce that X1Plus firmware version 3.1 is now available — bringing several powerful new features, critical bug fixes, and improved hardware integration. This marks a big step forward for those looking for richer connectivity and more flexibility in their X1 / X1 Carbon 3D printing setup.

📡 New: Polar Cloud Integration (Experimental)

  • With FW 3.1, X1Plus adds experimental support for Polar Cloud. This means you can now remotely manage and send print jobs to your compatible X1-family printer without relying on Bambu Cloud.
  • Note: this feature is disabled by default. You’ll need to enable it manually.

🛠 Other Firmware Enhancements

  • Adds support for updating firmware on all four AMSes.
  • The firmware GUI can now display data from sensors connected via the X1Plus Expander / Extender modules.
  • Bug fixes: for example, resolving issues selecting TPU for the AMS on device; fixing problems with downloading 3MF files from the cloud when using Ethernet.
  • The filament database has been updated (to Bambu filament DB version 02.01.00.25).

🔌 Hardware: X1Plus Expander / Extender Restocked

  • The X1Plus Expander (also called Extender board) is back in stock via CrowdSupply.
  • What it does: Adds Ethernet + USB ports + generalized GPIO / I²C / LED sensor abilities. Perfect for those who want added flexibility, modular sensors, camera shutter control, lighting, etc.

⚠️ Known Issues & Notes

  • When Polar Cloud is enabled, camera service may have occasional resource issues (disconnect / reconnect cycles). If the camera becomes unresponsive, a printer restart may be required.
  • Some features remain unsupported: AMS 2 Pro and AMS HT are not yet supported in this release.
  • Also, if you’re upgrading from earlier firmware versions (older than 2.0), follow the manual upgrade steps as the over-the-air updater may not work.

✅ What You Should Do

  1. Check your current firmware version. If you have 2.0 or higher, you can update via OTA (Over-the-Air). If older, prepare for manual install.
  2. If remote management without Bambu Cloud is something you want, enable Polar Cloud once it’s stable enough for your workflow.
  3. Think about getting the Expander board if you want to use external sensors, Ethernet connectivity, camera control, or LED / GPIO modules.
  4. Keep an eye on upcoming minor releases—they may iron out the known issues, especially around camera stability and action triggers.

Conclusion

X1Plus 3.1 is a significant leap in making your printer more connected, more flexible, and more under your control. With Polar Cloud integration, expanded hardware support, and key bug fixes, it underscores Polar Cloud’s commitment to open, user-driven improvements. If you’re using an X1 or X1 Carbon, this is an update worth getting.

Spatial Intelligence Needs a Physical Outlet
Spatial Intelligence Needs a Physical Outlet
Spatial intelligence underpins how we reason about shape, scale, and structure, yet it’s rarely taught directly. 3D printing changes that by turning mental models into physical reality, giving spatial thinking something solid to push against.
